The Title Of Reiki Master And The Precepts

The term Reiki Master was never used by the founder of the system of Reiki, Mikao Usui.

It was introduced when the translation of Japanese to English became necessary as the system moved out of Japan.

The question that we’d like to ask is this… is this the right title to call yourself when you are teaching, especially in our modern age?

There are many Reiki teachers today who feel uncomfortable calling themselves Reiki Master. This is because the title implies that the Reiki Master masters spiritual energy (Reiki). For this reason Shibumi International Reiki Association asks their Registered Practitioners and Teachers to refrain from using the title Reiki Master, instead calling themselves Reiki Teachers.

One of the first things you will learn when you study the system of Reiki are the precepts. As the foundation of the system, they are a good place to refer to when researching what the implications of calling yourself a Reiki Master might be.

The precepts are: For today only Do not anger Do not worry Be humble Be honest in your work Be compassionate to yourself and others.

These precepts are not only to be read, but lived by. What do these precepts say about the term Reiki Master?

“Be humble” one of the precepts reads. Wait a minute… is calling myself a Reiki Master in line with being humble? Doesn’t humble mean; to not be proud or arrogant and to be modest?

“Be honest in your work” is another of the precepts. This precept is plainly asking for honesty in the practitioner’s life as life is our work. This includes teaching or practicing the system of Reiki. Yet, claims of being a master of spiritual energy/Reiki is not in line with honesty. It is not possible for us to say that we have mastered spiritual energy. Life is a spiritual journey, there is always something more to learn.

So isn’t it time that we start to change the title of Reiki Master to something more realistic, humble and honest. Shibumi feels that as we are teachers of the system then the term Reiki teacher fulfills these requirements. We need to walk our talk.

A good reference point for us might also be to look at modern spiritual teachers and learn from them. The Dalai Lama, for example, states that he is just a simple monk. To practice is not to collect things and put them in your basket, but rather to find something in your sleeve. Shunryu Suzuki

Bronwen and Frans Stiene are the founders of the International House of Reiki and the Shibumi International Reiki Association. They have been a major influence on global research into the system of Reiki since the early 2000s. Their practical understanding of the Japanese influences on the system have allowed students around the world to connect deeply with this practise.

Tips When Buying a Reiki Table

Reiki, as you know, is a very positive energy based treatment that has been gaining popularity across the world. Reiki Masters are known to heal all kinds of ailments with energy directed to the body of the recipient.
For this Reiki treatment, there are Reiki tables that are mainly designed for Reiki patients who have accepted this as a natural way of treatment. So here are some tips when buying a Reiki table:
* You can easily opt for fold up type of massage tables which would be particularly useful if you make home visits to the patients who are in need of your help.
* If you intend to take the fold-up table to the home of a client, opt for something that is light weight so that the table wont be too heavy or strenuous for you to carry around with you. It is best if you can buy one fold up kind of a table that has its own cover. This would protect the table surface from getting spoiled, torn or scratched in any way. It would also last much longer and look better with a cover.
* Do see if the material in which the massage table is covered is of washable category. If so, you can relax and sigh in relief as it would be a durable investment. It is equally important for you to check whether the leg construction of the fold-up table would be able to withstand the pressures that come with the job of healing others over the years as you go on with your work.
* If your work in Reiki healing comprises the use of crystals as a part of the treatment course, it would be best for you to have table that is wide. If your table is wide, you would not have any difficulty to put the crystals on the table surrounding the body of the client.
* If you are short, it would not be a great idea to get yourself a wide Reiki table at all because your strain would be tremendous as you would keep on and on over stretching so that you can reach out to place your hands on the farther end of the body of the recipient.
* It will be important to ensure that you minimize your back from getting badly affected because of your constant bending especially if you are more on the taller side. So table height is crucial for you to consider. Most of the Reiki tables confirm with standard heights, but do not rule out the possibility that these tables can also be tailor made so that your personal height and comfort is ensured.
* Because most of your time is usually spent with your clients in a sitting position, do see if there are wires that help to provide some kind of support which allows you to place your legs under the Reiki table in a manner that is very comfortable for you while you are at work. If not, it would be strenuous for you.
* If you manage to spot any Reiki table with legs providing support to the table right in its middle, go for it because it helps your table to last for longer number of years. But if this is not possible, try to use some effective kind of tension wires so that you can easily hold the corner legs of the table in its right place while it makes sure that there is enough stability in its structure.
With these tips, choose your Reiki table with confidence.

Reiki Attunement Training and History

True Reiki training cannot be found in a book or video lecture. Because of the nature of this system of healing, it must be passed on by Master to student over a period of time and effort to become proficient in the art.
Reiki was originally developed as a modern revision of some of the ancient Japanese healing secrets by Dr Makao Usui. Dr. Usui was a Christian and teacher who through study of ancient Buddhist and Hindu practices, meditation and research, developed the system of natural healing by the laying on of hands.
As Dr Usui’s pioneering work caught the attention of lay people, he collected a cadre of followers, one of whom, Chujiro Hayashi was trained to take his place. True to the ancient traditions of Reiki master and students, Hayashi opened a Reiki training school in Tokyo where the next Reiki Master, this time Mrs. Hawayo Takata, was selected and trained. She emigrated to the U.S. and for 25 years until 1970 was the only Usui method Reiki Grand Master in the world. During the decade ending 1980 she trained a total of 21 Reiki Masters and her granddaughter Phyllis Lea Furumoto is the current Reiki Grand Master
Although there are other forms of Reiki today with other training methods accepted, the traditional Usui Reiki requires a direct lineage of student to Master all the way back to Hayashi.
Training for Usui Reiki is usually divided into three levels. Level I training requires one weekend to learn and is taught by a Reiki Master. The Reiki Master will help the students to become comfortable by discussing motivations for taking the class, chatting with classmates and drinking herbal tea. The definition of Reiki “universal life force” and an understanding of how it works are presented, followed by presentation of Attunements 1 and 2. Attunements are a ceremony of spirit. It follows a prescribed sequence of movements, chants, symbols and hand positions by the Reiki Master over the students. Attunements 3 and 4 in the training sequence follow the lunch break. During the morning, students are taught the 12 hand positions for a self-treatment, and in the afternoon, they proceed to use the same hand-movements to give others a treatment. The completion of this Level makes you a Reiki Level I.
Level II is completed in much the same manner; however, in order to take Level II, you must be invited to do so by the Master. There is a strong recommendation that you not continue with Level II until at least three weeks have elapsed since taking Level I, during which time you have practiced what you have learned and that you are sure you’re ready to move on. Level II is taught in two 3 hour sessions, with at least a two hour break between sessions so that you have time to memorize the Reiki symbols which you will be taught during the first session. Two attunements are given, one during each session. You will be asked to draw and name each of the symbols and to correctly use them. Completion of this class means you are a Reiki II.
Level III Reiki is sometimes called Reiki Master. It may require a 8 hour class weekly for several weeks. It’s important that those who aspire to reach the Reiki Master level are able to both give and teach others to give the attunements that are the key to successful practice of Reiki techniques. While other healing methods use hand positions to stimulate the life energy, only Reiki does it in coordination with self-attunement.

Quick Intro about Reiki

So do you want to know about Reiki? Ok, let me explain how far I know about Reiki.
Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. Reiki is capable of healing anything because it works at very fundamental levels of reality.
Reiki accomplishes this by providing the recipient enough energy to step above (metaphorically) to see all that and have the courage to let go. Reiki practitioners channel energy in a particular pattern to heal and harmonize.
Reiki energy has several basic effects: it brings about deep relaxation, destroys energy blockages, detoxifies the system, provides new vitality in the form of healing universal life energy, and increases the vibrational frequency of the body.
Reiki is a safe, gentle, non-invasive form of hands-on healing. Reiki healers claim to channel ki into “diseased” individuals for “rebalancing. Reiki healers differ from acupuncturists in that they do not try to unblock a person’s KI, but to channel the KI of the universe so that the person heals. Reiki is very popular among New Age spiritualists, who are very fond of “attunements,” “harmonies,” and “balances.
It is key important to understand that Reiki will enrich your life and give you happiness and health on all levels. Reiki is Universal life force energy, that which sustains life and promotes healing in all living things. But you need to understand that while Reiki is not a religion, it is still important to live and act in a way that promotes harmony with others.
Since the word Reiki means Universal Life Force Energy, it (strictly speaking) refers to the energy and not the specific techniques taught by Reiki Masters. However as Reiki is the common name, and a fine name at that, this is the name we will use here. The limits to Reiki seem to be in the recipients willingness to cast off old habits and patters, to accept change and to accept healing. The other meaning for healing, used in the practice of Reiki as well as other related areas, is the return to greater wholeness. Over time the healing of the worlds ills will be accomplished and, with Reiki in the hands of everyone, that day will come much more quickly. (Please observe that Reiki should never be used instead of medical treatment, it should be used as a compliment and a way to become and remain healthy.
If you are interested in Keiki It is likely you have been guided on your healing journey, your journey of spiritual purpose to many places and many experiences in the past and now find yourself here at this place as you continue to further explore the possibilities for deep healing and inner discovery. Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. Mikao Usui, the founder of the Reiki system of natural healing, recommended that one practice certain simple ethical ideals to promote peace and harmony, which are nearly universal across all cultures.
So give Reiki a go, for sure it is a very interesting way of improving your life.

Joaquin has wrote a few articles that have been published in reiki books, regarding how to use reiki stones.

Reiki Healing: Unlock your Natural Power

Reiki is a natural system of energy healing. The direct translation of Reiki is “Universal Life Force Energy”. This energy is the life force that permeates the universe.
A reiki practitioner channels that energy through the hands to activate the body’s natural healing mechanisms. The hand positions correspond to the points used in acupuncture and other practices, and Reiki also has elements of other spiritual healing practices.
One of the many lovely things about being a Reiki practitioner is that the energy flows through you, and does not deplete your energy at all.
Reiki can help to heal on many levels – physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual. That said, there is no guarantee that a person will be cured of any ailment after a single or even multiple Reiki treatments. However, Reiki can enhance the effects of medical treatment.
Reiki cannot do any harm, nor can it be used for any harmful purpose.
Reiki can also enhance personal and spiritual evolution and assist on the path to enlightenment. Reiki is not affiliated with any particular spiritual path and will work for anyone. Treatment with Reiki can help release blocked energy and promote relaxation and stress reduction. It also helps to cleanse the body of toxins.
Reiki can be used on plants, animals and in earth healing.
There are 3 levels of attunements required to become a Reiki Master. These attunements clear any blocks and connects the person to the ability to use the Reiki energy.
How to become a Reiki practitioner:
Find a Reiki Master in your area and learn from him/her. The usual costs are as follows:
Level One – $100
Level Two – $250
Level Three – $500
(Based on average prices in Canada)
Reiki Masters can also do distance attunements. Usually a pre-set time is arranged to pass on the attunement remotely. I have had great success with this method.
You can learn how to do the attunements yourself from a book. Although this is frowned on by many Reiki Masters, who insist that the attunements must be done in person, it does work. One of the most important aspects of Reiki is “INTENTION”, and setting the proper intention assures success.
Reiki is a wonderful, non-invasive healing practice that greatly benefits both practitioner and client. I highly recommend turning on your healing power through Reiki.

The Family and Reiki

Reiki can be shared as a family. When thought of it this way, it would increase for you and makes you whole. Reiki can be shared not just with the rest of the members of your family but to others that are close to your heart. Oftentimes, Reiki teachers and masters have families that don’t fully understand what Reiki really means and what it can do. But even so, if the members of your family are willing to support each other then eventually, Reiki will be theirs too. Family members who are willing to share in the beauty and power of Reiki can become open receivers of the gift. Spiritually speaking, Reiki can make any family grow stronger and more united not only in blood but in mind, heart, and soul as well.

Having a family that practices Reiki together is a blessing. In fact, the children are the more qualified receiver of this gift because of the purity of their mind and spirit. They can feel the energy going in and out of their system. By practicing Reiki together as a family, you can scan each other, determine which parts are in need, and provide the necessary healing for it.

Inside a family, injuries and illnesses come and go. If everybody else knows how to channel Reiki, injured person will feel relieved fast. This is because of the fact that Reiki can be given to the injured by any family member who is immediately available. And if everybody in the family happens to be available, then everyone can join in and give Reiki to the one who needed it most. As such, his or her illness and injury will heal faster.

Distant Reiki can also be sent over to children every time they’re in school. This is especially helpful during crucial examination days. Reiki can be used to give a person a clear mind and a relaxed body. And these are conducive to fairing better in class and in academic tests.

Reiki can also be used to patch up relationship. In a family, sibling rivalries do happen. If the parents only know how to send Reiki to their children, problems like these become petty. And the naturally healthy relationship of their children will be restored in no time.

Reiki can also strengthen the mind and the soul. Death may strike a family at any time. As such, the role of Reiki in making family members emotionally and mentally strong during these trying times is crucial. If you let Reiki to flow into your system in times like these, death becomes a lot easier to bear.

Reiki can be sent to any family member suffering from sickness or to anybody else who is in distress. A few minutes of your time is all you need. Stop what you’re doing and together with another Reiki practitioner, invoke on the distant symbol for healing. Think of the recipient of the energy and just let Reiki flow through him. Ask for the best outcome and the power of Reiki will do the rest.

Reiki can be used to protect the safety of a family member who is traveling. It can give good luck to somebody who is going in for a job interview. It can serve as a token of gratitude given to another who has done good deeds to you. Needless to say, Reiki can make your family share something special and something very powerful.

Reiki Techniques – Becoming a Reiki Master

If you are not educated in the status quo with Reiki energy, then you are probably not acquainted with the path about becoming a Reiki Master. In short, Reiki is a practice of deep sacred value that is a normal method of healing by channeling energy to another person through the means of energy centers or chakras. Employed for thousands of years, it was reintroduced in Japan by Mikao Usui in the 1800′s. This healing is alluding to the balancing of energy inside the body to cure itself. It is sometimes called prana or ch’i. So what does this all signify in becoming a Reiki master and the Reiki Treatments?
Imparting the Reiki energy for mending evidently comes with the territory of becoming a Reiki master, but an individual has to get to that place first. Though Reiki is a relatively painless technique to pick up and learn, people looking to pick it up must be prepared not to be taught in the usual sense of things. In fact, students during a Reiki class in reality have it transferred to them. Before becoming a Reiki master of your own, this transferral of energy known as Reiki Attunement must take place. This is central in becoming a Reiki master because it lets the pupil tap into the endless supply of ‘life force energy’ to make incontrovertible effects on a person’s health and of course greatly improve well being.
Using the great power of Reiki energy might seem like something of a sacred method, but becoming a Reiki master calls for being attuned to encouraging harmony with others in a certain way. If one is to go from a walk to a jog in becoming a master, it must be covered internally that the role is to come to the fruition that by consciously making up one’s mind to improve oneself spiritually it will project its ideals in a advantageous fashion.
Reiki masters give hands on healings as well as distant healings on persons who are not there with them. Additionally, Reiki Masters are also able to give distant Reiki attunements to pupils who are not able to train with them or train in their location. Therefore, learning Reiki by using a home study course has become a natural way of learning Reiki. If the life force energy of Reiki is everywhere and it is, then learning Reiki by using a home study course will be no less powerful than learning Reiki from a Reiki Master locally.
The mightiness of Reiki energy is possessed by Reiki masters, and it is important not to confuse them with Reiki teachers. To become a Reiki master one must in most cases have a Reiki Master certificate. This of course goes beyond what it just sounds like, for they must genuinely walk the walk in their attempts relating to effort and time that is essential in valuing the nuances of Reiki energy. To give one an idea, some souls seeking to become masters have developed for close to 50 years because they realise it is not so easy to master. This changes evidently based on dedication and understanding that it goes beyond the fact that it is just a pattern of healing therapy on the surface.

Relaxing Into Reiki – Part 1

REIKI TODAY
Reiki is an ancient healing art that has recently been re-discovered in Japan. With the resurrection of Reiki in this age of mass and almost instantaneous communication, word of its power is quickly gaining the attention of the mainstream world. The mode of transmission of Reiki energy from a Reiki practitioner to a recipient was originally believed, by those interested in this art, to be limited by physical proximity. The Reiki practitioner would place their hands gently on, or a few inches above the Reiki recipient’s body. Upon further exploration of the potential of Reiki, “sending” the energy to the recipient or situation has proven to be just as beneficial as Reiki “hands-on” sessions. In fact, those who are too busy to carve out the time for a Reiki session can now go about their business while receiving the energy. Reiki Masters, such as myself, have directed Reiki energy to boardrooms, pets, surgical procedures, courtrooms, business offices, plants and even sporting events. Reiki distance energy healing has become a viable option for those who would rather not have a “hands-on” session, are home bound, or simply don’t have the time for a session. After experimenting with this mode of transmission, I was utterly amazed at the results. One year of daily remote sessions to a seriously disabled arthritic friend ended up almost eliminating the crippling condition. Today this friend is not only employed, but is doing work that requires physical movement and stamina. As the power of Reiki spreads, individuals seeking sessions now have more options in incorporating it into their schedules and lifestyles.

ORIGIN OF REIKI ENERGY
The origin of this powerful healing energy is believed to be divine. It is the same energy that has been channeled by all the historically famous healing giants. Regardless of its source, or why it works, the results are always positive and directed toward the best outcomes. There is no danger of misuse or abuse. Reiki energy cannot be forced. An individual simply will not take in what it does not want. When Reiki energy is accepted, the highest good of all prevails. The recipient of Reiki need not study, understand or believe in its power and beauty. In fact, the recipient need not be awake while receiving the energy. Reiki energy always delivers the highest good. Considering the source, how could it do anything else? The only prerequisite is that the recipient, on a soul level, really wants to heal. The positive effects of Reiki energy could be quick and dramatic, or, take time to be noticed. The results are unpredictable and pleasantly surprising. One simply needs to trust in the intelligent nature of the source. An acute power of observation would be handy, only to affirm it’s often subtle life changes and effects.

FOREIGN NAME – UNIVERSALLY ACCEPTED ENERGY
One need not be mislead or intimidated by Reiki’s foreign name. Reiki is called such because, as it happened, this old system of prayer and healing was again returned to mankind via a Japanese man called Dr. Usui. The name “Reiki” is Japanese because that was Dr. Usui’s native language. This healing art was known and utilized long before it’s resurgence under a Japanese name. The divine is not concerned with nationality. When utilizing Reiki energy, one is merely tapping into the magnanimous love of the divine (God, life force, universe, Christ force, etc). Famous ancient healers such as Jesus used the exact same source of energy as is used by “Reiki.” Jesus once said that all he can do can be done by us and even more. The key ingredient is trust. As a Reiki Master, I have learned to trust in the goodness and intelligence of this energy.

APPLICATIONS & LIMITATIONS
The beauty of this divine love is that it does not discriminate between believers and skeptics. Its power has been utilized to positively impact a multitude of people and situations from NBA basketball games (calming potentially volatile players) to conservative institutions such as Wall Street. The healing power of Reiki can be directed toward individuals, pets, plants, living/working spaces, businesses, situations and even future events. This loving energy now called “Reiki” is incapable of hurting other individuals for personal gain. Extremely specific requests can be very limiting. One needs to reflect on the general desired outcome behind the request. An example would be to ask for the “growth of one’s business.” It would be more productive to ask what you would want from its growth. It may be better to ask for “financial freedom.” This broader approach frees up the hands of the divine to send you your best outcome(s). Reiki always works toward the best outcomes. When my clients present me with a request, I will ask that the energy be utilized for the “highest and best” of the individual or situation. It is good to remember that one is only limited by their imagination and purity of your intent.

REIKI HEALING FACILITATOR – TRAINING AND LEVELS
An individual can receive Reiki from what is known as a “Reiki practitioner.” The practitioner can lightly place their hands on various parts of the recipient’s clothed body or, the practitioner can remotely send the Reiki energy. In both distance and hands-on healing, the recipient’s own body’s innate wisdom actually draws the energy through the practitioner and directs it to it’s highest good. The healing occurs on a soul determined priority basis. Healing can be physical, emotional or spiritual. I always find it interesting and amazing to witness how the healing unfolds. The practitioner is not responsible for making healing decisions for the recipient. The recipient is the actual healer. The Reiki practitioner merely acts as a conduit of the energy thus serving as a “healing facilitator.”

Those who believe in a supreme intelligence can elect to believe the source to be divine, thus creating a cooperative union between one’s inner knowing (the soul), and the source (God). My personal evaluation of its magnificent power places God/Universe/Source as the ultimate source of this energy, however, one’s personal beliefs or lack thereof do not hinder nor enhance the results of a Reiki treatment.

Going through a special intensive training certifies a Reiki practitioner. The training is conducted by a Reiki Master/Teacher and includes a sacred ceremony called an “attunement.” Only after being attuned, can one channel the Reiki energy.

Other healing modalities manipulate “Ki” or life energy. Examples include the martial arts, acupuncture, therapeutic touch, and other forms of “energy work.” Reiki is different in that it is extremely focused and need not be guided by a special effort or entering an altered state. The energy destination is divinely directed.

There are different levels and abilities of a Reiki practitioner. To advance from one level to another, a perspective Reiki practitioner must receive an “attunement”. Generally, a person cannot channel Reiki energy without this ceremony. The first level is Reiki I. A Reiki I practitioner is empowered to channel Reiki energy by physically touching an individual with their hands. There must be physical proximity. A Reiki II practitioner is able to “send” the Reiki energy as well as giving hands-on treatments. Again, a special attunement is required to move to this advanced level. The Reiki II practitioner can direct Reiki energy to an individual, plant or animal or situation. When feasible, permission is required. In cases when granting permission is not possible, the Reiki practitioner can seek soul-approval. The next level is Reiki III. A Reiki III practitioner is known as a Reiki Master. In addition to the abilities of Reiki I and II, Reiki III practitioners are empowered with the ability to give attunements. A great deal of training by the master occurs prior to, and then after, the attunement.
