Reiki is a wonderful tool for spiritual, emotional and physical integration and healing and if you’ve decided you would like to train to become a practitioner, you might be wondering how to find the right Reiki teacher for you. Every instructor has a particular teaching style and here I will outline four key points that will help you find the right teacher and class for you.

1. Make sure the class is what you are expecting it to be. Most Reiki teachers provide their students a comprehensive class that lasts several hours where all of the pertinent information about Reiki is taught, an attunement (passing of the ability to channel Reiki energy) is given, ample hands-on experience is provided to give the student confidence in his or her ability to provide a session and certification is given at the end of class. There are, however, some teachers who only provide an attunement, a list of books to read, give out the appropriate certificates and then dismiss the class. Students who attend this type of class are lacking hands-on experience and aren’t given a chance to ask questions about the material they will later read.

2. Make contact with the teacher. When possible, contact the teacher by email or, even better, by phone. This will enable you to establish a bit of rapport and get a feel for their individual personality.

3. Ask to see a copy of the instructor’s teaching certificate. Every Reiki teacher is certified as an instructor. Most Western certificates will indicate the level of 3B or state the title of Reiki Master Teacher. Though I haven’t personally heard of anyone falsely claiming to be a Reiki teacher the fact is anyone can easily claim that title. Don’t be afraid to ask to see a teacher’s certificate. Most will be happy to email you a copy.

4. Request some referrals. Since every instructor has a unique teaching style, it is important to know if the person you’re considering taking a class from teaches in a way that is compatible with you. Are you the type who prefers a faster, more direct approach without a lot of excess discussion or do you need someone who is patient and enjoys answering questions? By asking for the contact information of a few past students who have agreed to act as referrals, you can get an idea of how this person teaches and whether or not you think he or she is best for you.

A Reiki class should be a positive, uplifting experience that you will remember for a long time to come and finding just the right teacher will help ensure that your Reiki training fulfills you on every level. I hope you found this article helpful and I wish you all the best on your Reiki journey.

After the formation of Reiki by Usui Reiki, several other forms of Reiki were developed by devotees of the practice. Each of these, while holding the traditions of Reiki, has used different powers and energies in order to help encourage the healing process. One type of these new forms of Reiki that has become popular is known as Gold Reiki. This specific Reiki practice focuses on a certain universal energy to help with healing.
The practice of Gold Reiki does not differ greatly from traditional Reiki, but it does have a special emphasis on a specific source of energy that it calls on from the Rei, or universal energies. This call on those energies is known as the Golden Ray. The Golden Ray has several specific qualities and attributes that can be used in order to focus healing energies on a person.
The first attribute of the Golden Ray is in relation to purification. It is known that this energy can cleanse out certain blocks of energy that are in a person very easily. Because it is associated with a pure form of energy, it is said that it can move into one and cause a higher vibration of energy to move through that person, which will cause the healing.
A second attribute of the Golden Ray that is used in Reiki is being able to transform darkness and fear attributes. It can move these with its energy source into forms of light and happiness inside a person. If you are having problems with phobias, depression, etc. then using Gold Reiki as a source will help you to solve these problems.
There are three major attunements that are used when learning Gold Reiki. These will open certain channels where the Golden Ray energy can move in relation to your energies while allowing you to relax. If you decide to use these attunements on your own, then it is best to use each one in a period of five days. This will cleanse out each chakra one-by-one. After the last attunement is achieved, you can call on specific universal energies to help with your healing.
If you are interested in learning about Gold Reiki, you can go one of to several places on the web, or in your local area to find one who is trained with this universal energy. There are several places that offer home study, as well as private training. By learning this, you will know which attunements and symbols to use in order to call on the Golden Ray energy in your Reiki healing sessions.
The use of Gold Reiki is not as common as other forms of Reiki. Its purpose is to focus on the specific universal energy of the Golden Ray. But Golden Reiki is valuable to you because it helps focus on specific forms of healing; Golden Reiki will help you to move past some energy blocks that are in your body.

True Reiki training cannot be found in a book or video lecture. Because of the nature of this system of healing, it must be passed on by Master to student over a period of time and effort to become proficient in the art.
Reiki was originally developed as a modern revision of some of the ancient Japanese healing secrets by Dr Makao Usui. Dr. Usui was a Christian and teacher who through study of ancient Buddhist and Hindu practices, meditation and research, developed the system of natural healing by the laying on of hands.
As Dr Usui’s pioneering work caught the attention of lay people, he collected a cadre of followers, one of whom, Chujiro Hayashi was trained to take his place. True to the ancient traditions of Reiki master and students, Hayashi opened a Reiki training school in Tokyo where the next Reiki Master, this time Mrs. Hawayo Takata, was selected and trained. She emigrated to the U.S. and for 25 years until 1970 was the only Usui method Reiki Grand Master in the world. During the decade ending 1980 she trained a total of 21 Reiki Masters and her granddaughter Phyllis Lea Furumoto is the current Reiki Grand Master
Although there are other forms of Reiki today with other training methods accepted, the traditional Usui Reiki requires a direct lineage of student to Master all the way back to Hayashi.
Training for Usui Reiki is usually divided into three levels. Level I training requires one weekend to learn and is taught by a Reiki Master. The Reiki Master will help the students to become comfortable by discussing motivations for taking the class, chatting with classmates and drinking herbal tea. The definition of Reiki “universal life force” and an understanding of how it works are presented, followed by presentation of Attunements 1 and 2. Attunements are a ceremony of spirit. It follows a prescribed sequence of movements, chants, symbols and hand positions by the Reiki Master over the students. Attunements 3 and 4 in the training sequence follow the lunch break. During the morning, students are taught the 12 hand positions for a self-treatment, and in the afternoon, they proceed to use the same hand-movements to give others a treatment. The completion of this Level makes you a Reiki Level I.
Level II is completed in much the same manner; however, in order to take Level II, you must be invited to do so by the Master. There is a strong recommendation that you not continue with Level II until at least three weeks have elapsed since taking Level I, during which time you have practiced what you have learned and that you are sure you’re ready to move on. Level II is taught in two 3 hour sessions, with at least a two hour break between sessions so that you have time to memorize the Reiki symbols which you will be taught during the first session. Two attunements are given, one during each session. You will be asked to draw and name each of the symbols and to correctly use them. Completion of this class means you are a Reiki II.
Level III Reiki is sometimes called Reiki Master. It may require a 8 hour class weekly for several weeks. It’s important that those who aspire to reach the Reiki Master level are able to both give and teach others to give the attunements that are the key to successful practice of Reiki techniques. While other healing methods use hand positions to stimulate the life energy, only Reiki does it in coordination with self-attunement.

Reiki is a very simple and efficient healing system with the imposition of hands.Many people struggled to discover the origins and the age of Reiki. It is not very easy. Much useful information has not been translated into English yet and some even have never been written. The history of traditional Reiki starts in 1800, although it is assumed to be quite older. The information available before the written texts, available only through the canalization, is theoretic, yet amazing and stimulating. Although this information is not proven it is very interested and cannot be neglected.
Many people, interested in Reiki, or canalization experts affirm that the human being history started on another planet and the human race has been brought on Earth. Translators of ancient texts are verifying these theories. We have to say they are really courageous. Someone affirms that the Reiki technique originated on the same planet where Gods with many hands were born on the Earth planet. This is also part of the ancient Indian culture. According to this culture the god Shiva brought Reiki on Earth and he wanted to be remembered for this.
The human body was created to be compliant to the characteristics of the Earth planet and Reiki was embedded in its genetic code. As a consequence, Reiki is part of us. Everyone has Reiki inside. Time ago was universal and was created to be used. The kids of one of the first civilizations, Mu, got the first level Attunement of Reiki at the beginning of the primary school, while the second level Attunement at the beginning of the secondary school. The Master level was only for the teachers but was available for everyone.
When this people left the land of Mu to go to places like India and Tibet, Reiki remained with them, even when Mu disappeared. The changes on Earth, when Mu and Atlantis disappeared, created several cultural imbalances, and Reiki was patrimony of only few people. In 1800 a Japanese men discovered that the healing method of Jesus and Buddha was similar to what Shiva has brought on Earth, and it was written in the Indian esoteric doctrines.
The history of Traditional Reiki started around the middle of 1800 when Mikao Usui, chancellor at the University of Kyoto, in Japan, and also Christian priest, started a research to discover which healing method Jesus used. The Christian authorities told him that little was said about this method and little was known. Usui started then to look for useful information within Buddhism, as there were several affinities between the life of Buddha in India and that of Jesus in Palestine. Unfortunately the Buddhist monks told him that the ancient healing method was lost and the only way to know them was to follow the instructions of the Lightening Path.
Mikao Usui went and lived in the USA for seven years. He applied at the theology faculty of the University of Chicago where he would find what he was looking for. He performed studies and comparisons between religions and philosophies, but he did not find the answers he was looking for. Then he came back to Japan and was remembered as Buddhist monk in a Zen monastery. The Reiki Master William Rand discovered that Usui was never chancellor of the Doshisha University neither student nor professor. Also it is not proven that he was at the University of Chicago. We may think that the Christian part of his life is an invention by the western people to justify the power of Reiki in the United States.
By the way Mikao Usui found some writings in the Zen monastery. In this writings there was the description of the healing formula. There was no information regarding the method of activation and use of the energy.
To comprehend the content he studied Sanskrit and then he discovered that the formula was very easy. He meditated three weeks, did fasting and prayed on Koriyama Mount. One day he saw a light beam towards him. The beam hit his Third Eye and he lost acquaintance for a while. When he woke up again he saw the Reiki symbols on a screen. While watching them he received the information to attract the healing energy. In this way the first Reiki Attunement occurred, first psychic re-discover of an ancient method.
