What to Look for In a Reiki Course

Reiki is a traditional form of healing, with its roots in Japan, but which has in the last few decades spread and gained popularity in many other parts of the world. To become an effective Reiki practitioner, one has to take a training course. These courses are normally offered by people who have attained the third degree of Reiki training, since it is the attainment of that third degree of Reiki training that gives one the title of a Reiki master, with the ability to confer ‘attunements’ to new student practitioners. And in order to perform Reiki healing either on oneself or on others, one needs to make use of the attunements which in turn can only be attained from a Reiki master, meaning that Reiki is an art you have to learn by signing up for a course; and it is therefore not something you can learn by yourself, as you would not be able to confer the relevant attunements to yourself. There are numerous people offering Reiki courses, and if you are considering taking up one, you will naturally find yourself having to make a choice of one over the other. And as a criterion for choosing a Reiki course, there are a number of things you need to look for.The first and foremost thing you need to look for in a Reiki course is the school of thought the people offering the course subscribe to. This is because there are many schools of thought in Reiki, and you need to see whether the philosophy of the school of thought the practitioners of Reiki offering the course subscribe to is compatible with your expectations of Reiki. This is in turn because there are schools of thought in Reiki teaching that emphasize on the self-healing properties of Reiki (where the ideal state would be having everybody subscribe to Reiki for their own healing), while there are those that view that view Reiki as a specialized field, with an aim of learning it to heal others in the same way a few people go to medical school to learn medicine in order to be able to treat the rest of the population. The other major thing you need to look at in a Reiki course is the Reiki master offering it – and see if he or she is a person you would love working with. Remember, as mentioned earlier, Reiki is a discipline that depends to a large extent on master to student impartation, and therefore not one of things where the role of the teacher is detached from the learning process. The knowledge and experience of the master in Reiki practice are other things you might also want to look at, in addition to rapport between you and him or her.Costs vary between the Reiki courses offered by different schools, and this too might be a factor you can look at in choosing a Reiki course. According to one authoritative website on this subject, Reiki courses for the first degree, for instance vary from between $75 at the lowest end, to $200 at the higher end, with the costs at the master teacher level varying between $500 and $10,000 – meaning that comparing the figures (without compromising training standards) can yield worthwhile savings.

Reiki (pronounced Ray-key) comes from the Japanese Rei and Ki meaning spiritually guided life energy. Reiki for dogs is a form of spiritual healing that helps harmonize the mind, body, and soul of your pet. It can be used as a treatment for relaxation as well as a tool for releasing negative emotions and limitations.
Reiki for dogs can treat many ailments that may be currently inhibiting your dog, whether noticeable to you or not. It can reduce stress, relieve pain, headaches, stomach upsets, asthma, back problems, sinus, respiratory problems, canine hip dysplasia, anxiety and many more. After performing your first session with your pet, you will see instant results of using Reiki for your dog.
Reiki for dogs is performed with a fixed set of hand positions. Each position is formed to create a specific desired energy outcome to ultimately bring your dog into balance. To understand how to use Reiki for your dog it is important to know the different charkas that are connected to the physical organs of the body as well as the aura.
There are seven centers of energy in your pet. Reiki for dogs focuses on changing the energy from one center to another to bring about balance. The hand positions control the Chi and ultimately free your dog’s aura while allowing for a continual energy flow. The seven centers consist of the Root chakra, Navel chakra, Solar Plexus chakra, Heart chakra, Throat chakra, Third eye, and the Crown chakra. These charkas are specifically connected to different glands in your dog. Reiki for your dog will make the glands release hormones directly into the blood stream and control all aspects of your dogs daily activities and healthy thinking.
Freeing the aura is a major part of using Reiki for dogs. Before Reiki, your dog’s aura might only extend a few decimeters outside the body. After performing Reiki on your dog its aura will resonate about 2-3 meters. There are several different layers of body in the aura that Reiki will expose for your dog.
Physical Body: the most tangible part of your dog’s body. Here, Reiki for your dog will ease some of the most common fears about the physical body-sickness, aging and death.
Etheric Body: connected to the Root chakra, it is made up of a thin invisible layer that is only 2 cm thick that surrounds your dog’s body. This is where the energy is reflected when Reiki for your dog gets it flowing from chakra to chakra. Many of your dog’s dreams are found here.
Emotional Body: connected to the Navel chakra it serves as an egg shaped emotion reflector that contains the other two bodies. Emotions like hope, happiness, love, anger, and sorrow are all found here. Reiki for your dog can release these emotions from past problems your dog has suppressed and create an empty canvas for your dog to express freely.
Mental Body: connected to the Solar Plexus chakra, reflects logic, mind, and intelligent thinking. Reiki for dogs helps shape their reality.
Astral Body: the bridge between the spiritual realm and the physical world. Reiki for dogs will help them express unconditional love.
Etheric Template Body: connected to the Throat chakra, this is where your dog has its thought processes. Reiki for your dog will connect its past, and present to its future.
Celestial Body: connected to the third eye chakra, mirrors the subconscious mind. It uses your dog’s intuition to bring about higher feelings. Reiki for your dog will allow your pet to have a love that goes beyond individual to universal.
Casual Body: connected to the Crown chakra, is the last body where the initial creative impulses begin. Reiki for your dog will have your dog’s soul communicating with its conscious mind and mental body.
Reiki for your dog is a gentle but powerful healer. It will balance your dog’s energy, organs, and glands. Reiki for dogs has proven to strengthen immune systems, relieve pain, clears toxins, and enhances personal awareness while relaxing your dog.

Four Forms of Reiki Meditation

Meditation is an integral part of Reiki, a traditional Japanese healing practice. According to the practitioners of Reiki, Reiki meditation can have a number of benefits, among them enhanced relaxation (leading to the healing of self), clairvoyance (ability to mystically foresee things), greater awareness and greater ability to visualize, which is important since we are more likely to achieve things we can visualize in life than things that we cannot visualize. Reiki meditation is also the means to balance one’s energy, which is what in Reiki parlance leads to the healing of oneself, and which is also what gives you the ability to heal others through Reiki via ‘energy attunement’. Through Reiki meditation, one is also supposed to attain a sense of detachment, which would empower them to ‘go with the flow’ rather than trying to force things to happen, which is what one would be inclined to do in default; naturally leading to frustration throughout life as most things in life are things we cannot really control.Reiki meditations can be seen as falling into four major forms.First is breathing meditation, and this form of meditations is always a prelude to other forms. In one of the breathing forms of meditation, one is advised to breathe slowly, while focusing their thoughts on Reiki. In another form of breathing Reiki meditation, one is advised to breath ‘naturally’ (as opposed to breathing slowly), and this is usually employed towards the end of Reiki breathing meditation sessions, as one transitions from the meditative state to the ‘ordinary’ state, maybe in setting the stage for a Reiki healing session.Another form of Reiki meditation is visualization-based meditation. Among the things visualized here include the Reiki symbol (for Reiki practitioners who have attained the second degree of Reiki training), as well as one’s goals in which one is seeking Reiki’s help in their attainment (since Reiki can also help in the attainment of ordinary day to day goals, beyond healing which is its most recognized application). The idea in the visualization-based Reiki meditation is to see the object of one’s meditation with one’s own ‘third eye’ – and doing so clearly. Then there is postural meditation, where a Reiki practitioner is able to attain the meditative state through the use of various postures. This type of meditation is normally used as a prelude to the other types of meditations, including the breathing Reiki meditation (which is itself a prelude to things like Reiki visualization-meditation). In postural terms, meditation may be carried out while lying down or sitting, among other postures. Another form of Reiki meditation is the moment to moment meditation, manifest through the way the practitioner goes about their day to day roles. This stems from the understanding that things like ‘avoiding anger, avoiding worry, and devotion in one’s vocation’ are among the things required of a Reiki practitioner, on a moment to moment basis. And these also – combined with a detached attitude on a moment to moment basis can be termed as forms of meditation too.

I have been a Reiki Master since 1996. Living in an ashram in India, my daily routine includes yoga, meditation, reiki practice and study of herbs. I have traveled almost all over the world teaching Reiki. Being a wild life enthusiast, I am passionate about climate change and environment pollution. I encourage my students to take part in Nature Walks to help understand plants and herbs which have medicinal properties.
